Why, of course! I can whip them up, no problem. After all, as Godmother, there is a contribution to be made for theis very special day. In fact, we saw some at the Trade Fair in Sydney. And we paid attention, because we knew this baby would be here soon. And we knew Baptism Candles would be required. WE EVEN ORDERED THE APPROPRIATE RUB-ONS. And then I smugly sat back til my skills (??) were requested.
So, ever tried to put a rub-on on a candle? Or to find a pen to write on a candle? Hmmmm, not as easy as first thought. So, I trawled the internet. I googled. I asked suppliers. We ARE A CRAFT SHOP. WE SHOULD KNOW THESE THINGS. Sleepless nights, frenzied days, and agonized conversaton followed. Late, LATE at night, an epiphany occurred: Clear Contact. Yes, that horrible stuff we used to cover our school books with.
So I cut out the correct size for each candle, and stuck it to my mat with tape. Used my selected rub-ons and printed matter. And then I very carefully wrapped that baby around my candle. It worked a treat.Voila!
To finish it off I wired up some beads, then stitched them on to the ribbon; then glued the ribbon on using the trusty old Power Pritt (slightly addicted to this glue – but in a good way!).
And the Man of the Hour? Well, what is all the fuss about? He enjoyed all of the attention (especially the extra special cuddle he had with me at the end of the day!), and took it all in stride. That’s our boy!
